a Muslimah in need
I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you about a sister of mine. Allah enabled us to cross paths while I was still an undergraduate in 2005. At that time, she had just become Muslim (alhamduliAllah), and was about to get married mashaAllah. The sister was ill at the time, struggling with the consequences of a 2002 surgery which had gone wrong.
In the surgery they removed some bone from one side of her face, which caused her head to be unbalanced on her spine. They also twisted the upper jaw to one side causing the spine to be twisted. Every time she moves, she feels like she is getting whiplash. She always has dizzying headaches and all the muscles in her body are in severe pain. Due to this imbalance in the structure, the core muscles all over the whole body have to take over the function of stabilizing the body. They are constantly stressed out and never get to relax, so they are always severely inflamed, sore and burning. Because of this any, sort of activity is painful for her. She can go out for short periods of time, but at a great cost: she is in tremendous pain and the pain prevents her from getting proper sleep for days at a time, which exacerbates her pain even more and also prevents her from being able to think clearly.
9 trying years for our dear sister….
For the past 9 years, she has undergone multiple surgeries and none of them have resolved the underlying issues. The most recent surgery was in March 2011. Although it brought slight relief to her pain, it did not relieve her of pain completely. This surgery also created a couple of new issues: it’s caused the airway to become restricted so it’s half the size of a normal airway causing her to be out of breath with very little activity. The jaw position is also misaligned so that the jaw only meets in one place and the teeth do not come together, so it’s impossible to bite down on or chew food properly.
Patience and gratitude…
Even with all of the trials of the past 9 years, our sister has more faith than most people I’ve met in my life. In times of immense pain, she will be reminding those around her of the benefit of such trials and their impact on the cleansing of the soul. She is always saying alhamduliAllah, and has maintained a cheerful, upbeat disposition in light of her situation. Knowing her for all these years has had a profound impact on my faith, and I imagine the same to be true for the rest of her friends.
The plan……
After all this time, Allah has blessed our sister with a specialist in California, who understands her problem and can resolve the issues. However, the surgery is expected to cost $80,000 + traveling, lodging, and other expenses.
How YOU can help…..
We are requesting that you open your hearts and wallets and assist us in raising the money for our dear sister’s surgery. There are 3 ways to help:
(1) Donate generously. Imagine if 8,000 of us could donate just $10. Inshallah we’d raise the money in no time! So why miss an opportunity to increase your scale of good deeds? Donate today!
