Imam Ash-Shafi’i Rahimahullah said:
If you have a righteous companion who aids you in Allah’s obedience, hold tight to his hand for holding on to a friend is difficult and losing him is easy.
Luqman-ul-Hakeem said to his son:
O son! Let a righteous companion be the first thing you seek after imaan (faith); for the example of a good friend is like a tree, providing you with shade if you sit under it, and fruit should you take from it and if it does not benefit you, it will surely not harm you.
It is said that Imam Ahmad became ill once. His good friend, Imam Ash-Shafi’i went to visit him, and when he saw the signs of extreme illness on his friend, he too fell ill. Hearing this, Imam Ahmad collected himself and went to the home of his companion. When Imam Ash-Shafi’i saw him he recited the following:
I visited the beloved when he fell ill, so i became ill due to my sadness over his state.
The beloved then was cured and visited me, so i too became cured by the sight of his health.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala says in Surat Az-Zumar
وَسِيقَ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا رَبَّهُمْ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ زُمَرًا
But those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups
Commenting on this Imam Ibnul Qayyim said:
Allah dislikes that people should enter Jannah individually, so He SWT allows them to enter in groups, according to their companionship.
